Mel Geary has been painting using oils and acrylics since 1955. His painting style has evolved from abstract expressionism to hard-edge/op-art with a focus on color relationships. Over the past 43 years, Mr. Geary's paintings have been shown in several galleries in New York, Canada and the Midwest. His work is also represented in many private collections. Fascinated by light and color, Mr. Geary has explored these elements using stained glass and sculpture in addition to his painting. He was born in 1929 in St. Paul, Minnesota. While studying Fine Art at the University of Minnesota, he also worked at the Walker Art Center. In 1961 he moved to New York where he worked for and was influenced by several artists including: Jim Rosenquist, Robert Indiana and Mark Rothko. Mr. Geary continues to paint in his lower-Manhattan studio.
