Artist Statement

I use digital photography to focus on the structure of bridges and towers in the Pittsburgh area. I select areas, textures and colors and adjust them to create new relationships between the various components of the composition. Some areas are subdued, some become linked with the surrounding shapes, and some areas are changed, enhanced and emphasized to become the main focus of the work.

I enjoy working with textures: I manipulate the painted and rusted surfaces on the structures. I layer parts of many structures together to form a maze of beams, posts and platforms. My vantage point is always from below: the underside of the bridges and towers is an interesting and complex construction - a great place to begin my work.

The endless design possibilities are fascinating to me, and I explore many as I progress to the final composition.
