Lois Eby paints in acrylic, watercolor, and ink; primarily works on paper, but also paints on wood and canvas. Her sources of inspiration are Chinese and Japanese ink painting, the improvisatory methods of African American music, and Western understanding of color and abstraction.
'Rhythmic vitality,' an aesthetic principle of calligraphy which is also present in African American music, describes the energy she mosts wants to achieve in her work.
